These are some interesting facts about Sebago Lake that are useful as mindless trivia to rattle off with newcomers to the area - or perhaps useful to contemplate the beauty and majesty of the area.
* Sebago Lake is the water source for Greater Portland which accounts for 15% of the entire population of Maine.
* The Lake covers greater than 30,000 acres with a watershed of greater than 50 miles (86% of which is undeveloped) and including 24 towns.
* The Lake is 12 miles long with maximum depth of 316 feet. The width of Great Basin is 5 miles, Jordan Bay is 2 miles and Sebago Lake Basin is 1 mile.
* The approximate volume of the lake is 995 billion gallons.
* Inflow to the lake from precipitation and tributaries averages 544 million gallons/day
* Outflow from the lake from evaporation, the Presumscot River, and Portland Water District averages 498 million gallons/day.
* The principal fishery of Sebago Lake consists of : Landlocked Salmon Lake Trout (Togue) Smallmouth Bass Largemouth Bass Whitefish Cusk Smelt
*The lake also supports approximately 20 other fish species
Having been around awhile now, I can tell you that I have visited so many, many places around the world and around the U.S.
